The Albis Ridge: Albispass & Albishorn

Keep walking where the day-trippers stop

The Uetliberg is only the northern end of the Albis chain, a wooded ridge that runs south for some twenty kilometres between Lake Zurich and the Reppisch and Reuss valleys. Past Felsenegg the crowds thin out. The path stays on or near the crest by way of Buchenegg to the Albispass road pass, and beyond it climbs to the Albishorn, at a little over 900 metres one of the highest points of the chain.

On the eastern slope lies the Sihlwald, a large beech forest protected as a nature discovery park; to the west, in a hollow below the ridge, the small Türlersee.

Top things to do: The Albis Ridge: Albispass & Albishorn

Hike the full ridge

Uetliberg to Albispass is a satisfying day walk of roughly four to five hours, with several places to stop for food. Fit walkers continue to the Albishorn and descend to the Sihl valley or to Hausen am Albis.

Swim in the Türlersee

The Türlersee is a favourite summer bathing lake with a bathing beach and a campsite. A path descends to it from the ridge near Buchenegg and the Albispass.

Visit the Sihlwald

The Wildnispark Zürich in the Sihl valley combines the Sihlwald forest with the Langenberg wildlife park near Langnau am Albis — a good family extension, reached by the S4.
